Retaining Traditional Aesthetic Values With Modern Aluminium Gutters

England has an incredibly rich historic past and some of the castles, abbeys and churches are arguably amongst the finest in the world. Unlike some other countries, England has also built up cities around ancient towns and now we have historic and new buildings standing shoulder to shoulder. While to some this maybe unusual, it is in fact part of a rich tapestry of change that is defining the UK’s architectural advances. This interesting situation of having old and new buildings standing cheek-by-jowl gives property owners many options. Some properties are protected by organisations such as the National Trust but other building aesthetics are purely at the occupier’s discretion. It’s for this very reason that aluminium gutters are moving forwards as a popular rainwater solution, as they seem to work with both old and new properties in equal measure.

Traditional Properties

Traditional properties can be defined in two ways, the first are properties of genuine historic age and the latter, properties designed to look of a periodic style. Both these types of properties usually have traditional cast iron gutters in place and can look incredibly smart. However older cast iron gutters, if not looked after properly can suffer from corrosion and in serious cases have holes appearing that rust has eaten away. In some cases they can be repaired, but another option is to install new aluminium gutters. Aluminium gutters come in a striking powder coated black finish giving them a similar look to cast iron. Many people however choose to paint cast iron gutters in a glossy black, making them shiny, as opposed to the powder coated matt finish of aluminium gutters. This matt finish can give a traditional property a new look, without detracting from the period charm.

Modern and New Builds

Modern buildings unlike older or faux period buildings don’t have the same architectural boundaries. Often more daring in shape and colour scheme, this means that the owners can try new materials for essentials such as the rainwater systems. Many people with new builds make the mistake of purchasing cheaper low quality plastic guttering from unknown brands, and while it may be black in colour, the quality certainly isn’t similar to aluminium gutters. The main issue with cheap plastic guttering is its tendency to splinter and crack under icy conditions and this can lead to expensive repairs. Some other people choose to fit durable cast iron guttering, but after years of weathering it can begin to need attention and left to fend for itself can soon look tired. Aluminium gutters are the perfect partner for more modern houses as their blend of cost effectiveness and good looks makes them ideal. Modern buildings’ daring lines are also complemented by the right guttering and the black clean lines of aluminium gutters can certainly enhance a property.
