Zinc Gutters - The Perfect Way to Complement Modern Stone Buildings
Stone is still an incredibly popular building material for houses competing alongside the affordable red brick and sandstone buildings. In modern towns, its red brick that is the most common, often due to its ideal shape and traditional use, for building interlocking terraces. Moving out of the town centres and large impressive residential stone buildings start to appear. Stone buildings don’t have to be old fashioned however; with many contemporary buildings using a combination of stone and glass to give a sturdy yet spacious appearance. Completing the look of these houses can be down to several areas. Getting the sweeping driveways right and using the right types of stone or asphalt to cover them, making sure the windows are large and in keeping with the overall look of the property. Perhaps another area overlooked though is the rainwater systems, or more precisely the guttering.
The colour of stone is typically a beige or grey and when wet darkens down to blues and almost purples. Choosing a guttering solution that doesn’t overpower this gentle aesthetic is crucial and its zinc gutters that arguably achieve this the best. Because zinc is light and silvery, when it’s fitted against the strong lines of a stone build house it helps to retain the sturdy appearance and defined edges but gives it a modern lightness. Over time and with exposure to Mother Nature the bright silver dulls to a handsome, almost lead like colour that brings with it the sense of posterity.
In addition to zinc gutters cosmetic charm, it is also incredibly hard wearing and durable. Zinc gutters are similar to copper in the respect that over time they build a natural defence to the elements achieved through oxidisation. Unlike copper though, zinc merely dulls to a different shade of metallic grey.
Although aesthetics are purely down to the home owner’s preference, zinc gutters seem to be increasingly popular and in addition to stone, zinc works well with other materials as well.
