Yeoman Rainguard gives victorian mansion a new lease of life

Specially manufactured hoppers from the Yeoman Rainguard range of GRP rainwater products enabled development company, Oakdene Homes to retain elements of the historic charm of a derelict Victorian country mansion during a programme of restoration to convert Swaylands in Kent into 28 individual luxury apartments.

This is the latest chapter in the history of the grand property built in 1842 which, in its early years, was a showcase home hosting visits from dignitary including Edward VII and his daughter in law to be Queen Mary and has subsequently seen its fair share of change as a hospital for World War Two soldiers and, until 1994, a learning difficulties school.

Yeoman Rainguard used its manufacturing skills to create a mould of the original cast iron hoppers in order to produce exact replicas in GRP, which is particularly suitable as a replacement where cast iron or lead systems have previously been installed on older buildings and churches.

Aluminium pipes and gutters finished in black textured polyester powder coating from Rainguard’s XL range completed the rainwater requirements, being fully compatible with the GRP range and needing no maintenance other than periodical cleaning.
